Business Secrets Revealed: 4. Business is Occupation

Business Secrets Revealed: 4. Business is Occupation

Business Secrets Revealed: 4. Business is Occupation

Business is Occupation:

The principal activity in your life is to earn money and spend it for the basic needs and other comforts of life.

Job or Business?

After a reasonable period of physical growth and education, one decides to enter into the main activity of earning for a living. Based on the facilities and circumstances, he prefers to go to a job or enter into an enterprise. This depends mainly on the individual's attitude and aptitude; in simple words, they are his feelings and fitness.

Attitude (feelings):

He grows into a man in an atmosphere, where he senses, understands and interprets many a thing around him to match his inner feelings. He develops a futuristic model of his kingdom in his own way of thinking. He wants to build up his empire with the thoughts and feelings to have a final mental satisfaction.

Aptitude (fitness):

However, his physical health, vigor, strength, robustness, trainin g, skill development, education, knowledge and many more personality factors decide his fitness. The major other factor is the suitability or appropriateness of his skill to the business or the job in selection. He must capable of fulfilling the requirement of the job or business to fullest satisfaction of the consumers. He must be talented to convert his skill into money with all the compatibility of the participants.

When his competence to perform and his mind-set match with each other, then the job accomplishment becomes easy.

Is a job or a career a business?

For some time, I was differentiating job from a business. Job is not a business as it is a work to perform as advised.

Job is simple:

It is for getting a wage or salary at the end of the work. The components and characters of a business are huge. While, the job may be small or big, short or long, it will constitute a simple way of doing.

Learns simple to complex:

However, the person who starts his career as a worker or a staff of a business organization does the job allotted to him initially.

Supervises the Jobs:

When he is conversant with the job, he takes the responsibility to do more work by supervising the workers under him. He becomes a supervisor and does more work of providing basic materials for the job and managing them for better performance.

Manages the Business:

He becomes a manager and takes part in all the works related to the organization. When he is an entrepreneur, he tries to understand all the jobs within the business fully. Business as a whole will seem to be cumbersome and complicated.

Job is Part of the Business:

When divided into small jobs, it becomes simpler and easier. Thus, a job is not a business, but sure to be a part of the business. A number of jobs, when coordinated become a successful business activity. However, the great responsibility of managing the entire episode daily rests with the entrepreneur.

Meaning of Business:

Business is antonym of laziness, lethargy and sluggishness. Hence, the meaning of business is keeping oneself busy in any kind of activity. Active participation in any activity of production, service and conceptual doing will result in generation of wealth. Therefore, you need to participate in these activities; in other words, you simply get occupied to help the people around. It is business!

Understand your Creation:

A little spiritual story may also explain how the business is born.

Creation of Five Great Energies:

We know that the Lord created the Earth on Monday, water on Tuesday, fire on Wednesday, air on Thursday and the space on Friday. He created all the living creatures of plant and animal kingdom on Saturday, the penultimate day of the week. The Creator wanted to take rest on the final day, the Sunday . Instantly, He elevated the human beings to a higher level, appointed as his co creators, and asked them to help themselves.

Creation of Co creators:

Now, to carry out the order of the Creator, the human race started participating in producing commodities, extending services and developing business principles to help each other. This might have started with production of food grains and agricultural tools and implements initially. The exchange of these commodities within the society resulted into barter system of business. The production and distribution of goods and services grew to an unimaginable level as the human population and its needs multiplied so much. Business is now highly complex, involving every body in this great earthen sphere!

Business Is Born:

Therefore, you will not hesitate to accept that business is born to help each other in the mammoth society as per the order of the Lord. Business is the creation of the Creator and we, the co creators are here to monitor to help the people mutually.

Business is occupation:

Get yourself occupied in any suitable activity and perform the purpose of your creation: It is business!

Find the Probability of Success for Any Online Home Based Business Opportunity

Find the Probability of Success for Any Online Home Based Business Opportunity

Find the Probability of Success for Any Online Home Based Business Opportunity

There are about three big opportunities per lifetime. Like baseball, if you miss all three, you are out. Do you remember the last online homebased business opportunity you missed? Did you miss Microsoft? Did you miss Yahoo? Did you miss Google?

Couda, shouda, wouda

Why did you miss out? Was it lack of knowledge? Was it indecision? If it was lack of knowledge, you can forgive yourself. You can not know what you do not know. There was nothing you could do about it. If it was indecision, there was something you could have done.

Oportunity is the fruit of Convergence. Peter Drucker defines opportunity this way:

"Opportunity in the market place is because of a process of convergence of forces that were previously not together."

The idea of forces coming together, converging, is stronger than the business itself. The essential forces Peter Drucker did not individually identify as converging will be enumerated and discussed in this article.

There are five essential forces that must be present for any successful online homebased business opportunity. This article will describe these five essential forces that must be in place for any online homebased business opportunity to be successful. These five essential forces apply to any online homebased business opportunity. They are universal, abstract, and independent of business type. They apply from academia to zymology.

A simple analytical method to evaluate these essential elements and arrive at a numerical figure of merit will be presented. The method is strong, impersonal, and reliable. You will arrive at a numerical rating for the relative strength for the Probability of Success (S) for any online homebased business opportunity you care to evaluate. Reducing the evaluation to a number between zero and 100 gives you a powerful, impartial method to evaluate or compare any online homebased business opportunity. This will remove emotion from the decision process.

Convergence of these five essential ingredients is absolutely essential for success. All five forces must be present simultaneously. In other words, they must all converge at the same point in time for the same business venture. They must all be in the right place at the right time to create a successful online homebased business opportunity.

These forces are the essence of all businesses, regardless of product. They are like the spokes in a wagon wheel. If one spoke is missing, the wheel breaks down. Each factor dramatically affects the success of any online homebased business opportunity.

Without the convergence of these five forces there is no online homebased business opportunity. If there is no convergence, there is nothing you can do to make the business a success. No amount of hard work and no amount of money will yield success.

Opportunity presents itself only when all these forces are in simultaneous alignment. One force is not consi dered more important than the others. The order in which they are presented is no indication of their relative values. They will be discussed in random order.

This method is not buried in concrete. Feel free to make your own assessments of relative importance. When you finally establish a value, stick with it. Be consistent so comparisons can be made between one online homebased business opportunity and another. For example, if you decide leadership has a maximum value of 2 or 5, stick with it on any online homebased business opportunity you wish to evaluate.

It will be convenient if the sum of the maximum values allowed always equals 100. In this case, Leadership has been arbitrarily assigned a maximum value of 2. All you need to do is decide if the leadership of your proposed online homebased business opportunity deserves a zero, 1, or 2.

1. Company (C ) (Maximum = 20)

Company Management (Maximum = 10)

Leadership (2)

Confidence or trust (2)

Experience (2)

Honesty (2)

Influence (2)

Company Financial Stability (Maximum = 10)

Assets (2)

Cash (2)

Credit Rating (2)

Visibility (2)

Technology (2)

Many start-up online homebased business opportunities do not have the financial assets to sustain their own growth. A viable online homebased business opportunity must have very deep pockets or be owned by a company with very deep pockets, preferably a parent company that has already gone through the growth cycle and has the funds to support the new growth.

2. ProDucts (D) (Maximum = 20)

Leading Edge Product Technology (Maximum = 5)

R&D

Proprietary (No other place to get it)

Competitive

Product Quality (Maximum = 5)

Quality, like Reliability, must be built into the design and process. It cannot be "tested" or "worked" into the products.

Product Fills a Recognizable Need (Maximum = 5)

There should be a clea r need for your product or service. If there is no need, there is no demand, and there is no opportunity. There may be very little demand for 78 rpm vinyl records.

Consumable (Maximum = 5)

If the product is not consumable, there is no additional market after the initial sales and there is no opportunity.

Trends (R) (Maximum = 20)

Demographic Trends (Maximum = 10)

As individuals, we can not create a demographic trend. We can only recognize it and take advantage of it. The "Baby Boomers" are the largest market in history. Starting immediately after WWII, 76 million babies were born during the period between1945 to 1964. When the first of these babies were born, a powerful demand for baby products materialized. Companies like Johnson & Johnson and Gerber's made huge profits. As these babies started shaving, Gillette started making huge profits. As they learned to drive, the Ford Mustang was in demand. As these babies began to have babies, the M ini-Van became desirable. If your online homebased business opportunity is positioned in front of the Baby Boomers, assign Demographic Trends a maximum value.

Economic Trends (Maximum = 10)

Individuals do not create an economic trend. Individuals have no control over economic trends; however certain businesses are sensitive to economic trends. Real estate is sensitive to interest rates. In times of economic downtrends a low number would be assigned. Cosmetics, on the other hand, are virtually immune to economic downtrends and would be assigned a high number. People will give up eating to look good and feel good. If your online homebased business opportunity is immune to economic trends assign a high number.

Timing (T) (Maximum = 20)

You have no doubt heard the expression that in real estate the three most important factors are Location, Location, and Location. In an online homebased business opportunity, the mantra is Timing, Timing, and Timing.

If one force is more important than the others, perhaps timing is the most important element of success. Timing, like trends, is also beyond your control. Like trends, you can only recognize timing and take advantage of it. There is nothing you can do to improve timing. It is either there or it is not. If timing is present assign a high number based upon the following criteria.

A. Formulation Phase: (Maximum = 20)

This is the phase where research and development are just completed. Production and initial marketing efforts begin. This region is characterized by slow, deliberate growth. As an agricultural example, this is the time for planting. It is defined as the region of the growth curve where income from sales is less than $ 50 million per year.

This is the time to get into any business. It requires forethought and knowledge. It does not require speculation. It requires due diligence on your part to study the online homebased business opportunity and arrive at your estimate of the strength of the five essential force ingredients of a successful online business venture. If you identify that your online homebased business opportunity is in the formulation phase, assign timing a value of 20.

B. Critical Mass Point

he critical mass point is defined as sales of $ 50 million per year. This is the point which will determine " When". This is the point when your labors will begin to yield fruit at such a great rate you will be unable to contain them. From this point onward, the curve rises ever so steeply. This is the time to act quickly and decisively. If you are not on board at this time, your online homebased business opportunity will quickly leave you behind. If you identify that your online homebased business opportunity is at the critical point, assign timing a value of 20.

C. Momentum

Momentum is defined as sales greater than $ 50 million per year and increasing very rapidly. If you have exercis ed your desire, ability, and motivation, you have already become a participant before your online homebased business opportunity reaches momentum. You have exercised your choice and are now in position to enjoy the fruits of your labor. There is nothing you can do to stop the momentum which is now building beneath you. It is beyond your control. It is like a giant wave that carries you to the pinnacle of success. There may be some who grab onto an online homebased business opportunity as it speeds by them, but the exponential growth eventually decays exponentially as the wave crest rises higher and higher until the opportunity diminishes. For example, you could buy Microsoft stock now, but the big opportunity is already over and it will never come back again. If you find your online homebased business opportunity is just starting into momentum, assign timing a value closer to 20. If you find your online homebased business opportunity near the top of the curve, near stabiliz ation (defined below), assign timing a number closer to one.

D. Stabilization

This is the area where the exponential growth has died out. Momentum has dissipated. Sales are good, but sales are not increasing exponentially. The business is mature, stable, and secure. The curve is relatively flat, and growth has slowed to a value similar to the development phase. The online homebased business opportunity has gone. It is passed. It is over. There is no online homebased business opportunity. If you find that your online homebased business opportunity is in stabilization, assign timing a value near zero and start looking for another online homebased business opportunity.

Compensation (K) (Maximum = 20)

Leverage (Maximum = 10)

If you trade time for money, you will never get ahead by investing one increment of your time for one increment of income. You will remain in the very treadmill you are trying to escape. You will get by, but you will never get ahead. If you want to get ahead, you must find a way to multiply your efforts. That is done by leveraging yourself. J. Paul Getty stated this clearly when he said:

"I had rather have one percent of a hundred people's efforts than 100% of my own efforts".

If you have no way to leverage yourself (e.g. fixed salary) assign leverage a number near zero. If you can leverage yourself, assign a number closer to 10.

Multiple ways to earn income (Maximum = 10)

Sales Profits (1)

When you can profit from your own sales efforts, assign a value of 1, otherwise zero.

Override (1)

If you receive override compensation on the efforts of others, assign a value of 1, otherwise zero.

Matching (5)

If you can receive matching compensation on the efforts of others, assign a full value of 5.

Residual (2)

If you can build your equity to the point that you have residual compensation from your previous efforts, assign a value of 2.

Perpetuity (1)

If your equity is yours to sell or will to your survivors, assign a value of 1, otherwise zero.

Define the Possibility for Success (P) as being totally dependent upon the sum of the five prime forces required for a successful business (above). Notice that it has nothing to do with you. The only thing you will do is evaluate each ingredient and assign it a strength value. This will depend upon the research you conduct to gain information about the five essentials for the particular online homebased business opportunity. Assign each one of the five ingredients a value from zero to 20 according to the instructions presented above. (Naturally, 20 is the ideal, strongest value.) You have determined all the values for C, D, R, T, and K. Repeating, you have evaluated each force ingredient separately and arrived at your evaluation of its relative strength.

Add up all five of your separate evaluations.

P = C + D + R + T + K

For exam ple, if all five ingredients are present in your online homebased business opportunity and each is individually evaluated as being 20, then:

P = 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20

P = 100

Let us further define a Multiplier (M), as a figure of merit derived from your desire, motivation, and ability to succeed. Let M be limited to a number between zero and one with zero being the worst case and one being the best case. Note that this multiplier is entirely dependent upon you, not the online homebased business opportunity. Determine this multiplier number by self-evaluating your desire, ability, and motivation. Notice that the multiplier number does not depend on your time. Too many people say "I don't have the time." That means you are "too busy chopping wood to stop and sharpen the axe". Successful people do not have time---they make time. Ideally, you want to rate yourself as a "1", not a zero. But unto thine ownself be true.

Define Success (S) as:

S = M (P)

If you are a "one" and not a "zero", and all five ingredients of your online homebased business opportunity are present at their full value, there is no gamble since:

S = 1(100)

S = 100

Having completed your "due diligence", failure is no longer an option or possibility. The probability for success is 100 percent. Your success is assured. It is no longer a question of "If". It is simply a question of "When".

Home-Based Business For Fun And Profit

Home-Based Business For Fun And Profit

Home-Based Business For Fun And Profit

SELF-EMPLOYMENT AND YOU The world of self-employment can be a personally and financially rewarding one for the right individual. Many people dream of owning their own business but don't believe it will ever happen for them. The majority of these folks see all the positives of working for yourself, but lack the drive and determination to make the transition from employee to employer. Self-employment is the ticket to higher earnings without limit and the right to control and work your own schedule. But it's not easy work. A lot of self-employed people are working longer hours and weeks than ever in their own business. The difference is they are doing work they truly enjoy, and are getting paid for it! You have the talent and ability to work on your own! Perhaps you're just not sure what business you'd like to specialize in. Sales aren't just the slick folks on the automobile showroom who want to know what it will take to get you in th at car today. Selling is the process by which a product reaches a consumer. It can take many forms. If you have some preconceived ideas about sales right now, erase them from your mind. Start with a clean slate by remaining open to all possibilities in your home-based businesses. After all, if you're marketing a product you would buy yourself, it will be easy to convince others of its value. Since you're selecting the right business opportunity, you'll unquestionably choose the business that has the most appeal to you. Selling something you love almost never feels like work, or real selling!

HOW TO GET STARTED If you currently have a job, you may want to break into your home-based business on a part-time basis until you've built up enough earnings base to leave. There will probably be no greater feeling than when you walk out the door and into a business where you call the shots! If you're between jobs, then by all means go at this full- force. All you need to do is to contact the businesses listed here that interest you and begin the process of determining if this is right for you. There may be several opportunities here that are franchises. There is no available data that says that electing to go the franchise route to start your business has any lower success rate than beginning a new business from scratch. Again, view these choices with an open mind and investigate the opportunity thoroughly before making the commitment. If you're working part or full time, you can, perhaps, be even choosier.

THE TOP 10 WAYS TO EARN MONEY AT HOME

1. ANTIQUES

The buying and selling of antiques has been and should continue to be a very productive business, financially, for those that do it. Here, you only need an extra room in the house, or the use of your garage -- and you have an office!

If you have a large home that has some antique furnishings, you might consider turning it into a showroom for your antique acquisitions and sales, providing you satisfy any local zoning regulations. The interest in antiques will survive into the foreseeable future. Many people choose to spend their free time on the weekends "antiquating" from place to place to try and pick up a few odds or ends and maybe a jewel or two. If you know anything about antiques, this may be a great opportunity for you.

For more information, check out the book, "Buying and Selling Antiques", by Don Cline and Sara Pitzer. Your local library may be filled with other publications on this subject that can get you started quickly. Your only overhead may be inventory and advertising!

2. BAKING

Have you ever been told that you have a recipe which people would line up to get if they could? Ever had anyone tell you that you should be selling those cupcakes you make? There are a number of success stories about people who have launched successful busines ses by cooking at home and then marketing to local people first. Word of mouth on a good product may start to get restaurants or bakeries interested in acquiring your culinary masterpieces. Then you progress to selling them state-wide and presto! A winning home-based business!

For more practical advice on the assorted aspects of setting up a specialty foods business, you should contact your local U.S. Department of Agriculture Home Extension Agent in your county. Since every U.S. county has such an individual, that person shouldn't be hard to find!

3. BED AND BREAKFAST PROPRIETOR(S)

Have you ever stayed in a bed and breakfast and thought, "hey, I can do this!" You probably went on vacation and simply chalked your thought up as one of those pipedreams one gets when they stay in a beautiful spot.

Don't toss that thought away! While it's not easy work as the hours can be long and it's usually a seven days per week business, it's ofte n something that you can work into a daily schedule. After all, it's merely an extension of doing the housework for family, right? More and more Americans are taking after Europeans and opening their homes to travelers. If you have an extra room or two since the kids moved out, you can start a bed and breakfast in your own place!

Bed and breakfast popularity will continue as more and more vacationers and business travelers seek a different accommodation away from the predictability of the average hotel room. If they enjoy their stay, many become "repeat" customers, coming back to the same familiar surroundings time and again.

If you don't need to do any major renovations in the house to accommodate this type of establishment, you can be off and running with very little money invested, other than advertising and some new "guest room supplies". If your dream is to buy a bed and breakfast somewhere in a vacation paradise, there are probably house s for sale that will work for this purpose.

Whatever your design, there are several good books on the subject of starting your own bed and breakfast, including "Start Your Own Bed and Breakfast", by Beverly Mathews. Check them out at your local library.

4. CHILD CARE

Due to the financial pressures many families face today, many parents work outside of the home to bring in enough income to pay daily living expenses. A single parent is obviously working but all too often both members of a two parent family are in the workforce.

This creates a home-based opportunity. Children must be watched, all day if they're not in school, or, otherwise, for a brief time after school before the parents finish work for the day.

Caring for one additional child may not be that lucrative, but taking care of several children can certainly be a full-time, financially successful business. Often, taking care of several children is made somewhat easier as the youngsters often will play together.

You can do this at home for only a small investment in basic equipment and toys for the kids in addition to the advertising of your business. There are several publications that address starting this type of business, including "Family Day Care", by Betsy Squibb.

Another resource is the Day Care Council of America, 5730 Market Street, Oakland, CA. 94608.

5. COMPUTER SPECIALIST

The advent of the computer age has changed the concept of self-employment. Having a computer at home has opened a number of opportunities for running your own business utilizing this equipment. Companies everywhere are "outsourcing" work that can be done by someone else on their computer, out of their own home.

If you're not that familiar with a computer, there are many low-cost (or free) seminars and classes that will teach you what equipment you need and how to use it.

If you're a whiz in computers, you m ay end up working as a consultant, writing programs for companies. If you're a beginner, you may find yourself able to obtain work as a writer, using your computer to produce copy that's easy to edit. You can also keep accounting and payroll records for companies on your computer's database.

Word processing software can be used not only for writers but for those that can offer secretarial services out of their house. Desktop publishing software can allow you to do newsletters for businesses and other organizations.

For more educational data, contact the Information Resources Clearinghouse at Syracuse University's School of Education, 030 Huntington Hall, 150 Marshall Street, Syracuse, N.Y. 13244. Their phone number is (315) 443- 3640.

There are a substantial number of good publications, too. Your local library will have several books on computer occupations. If you can operate a computer, you can find work in the information age today.< /p>

6. GARDENING

If you like working in your garden each year and growing vegetables for your family to eat, it's a definite possibility for home-based employment. Imagine clearing a little more space and growing more items that you can sell directly to the consumer.

Most produce stands will buy from you if your product is one of high quality. If you enjoy gardening, this could be your ticket! If you have some more land to use, do it! Plant what you can, when you can! Contact your local produce stands to ascertain their buying habits.

You can even inquire about your own produce stand if you have enough product. The more space you have on your land, the more likely you will be able to generate enough crops to run the business.

People love home-grown vegetables. They just don't have the time or want to be bothered doing it themselves. That's your open door!

For more information, consult books like "Plants for Profit," and " A Complete Guide to Growing & Selling Greenhouse Crops", by Francis Jozwik.

7. IMPORTER AND DISTRIBUTOR

There are a substantial number of products manufactured in other countries which can be bought inexpensively and sold here in the United States at a profitable level. The recent passages of the Congressional bills, NAFTA and GATT, may make it easier to bring in other products from other countries.

This is a business easily operated out of the home, depending on the types of stock you're carrying. You may have to rent some storage space, but the capital required to start should essentially be limited to the products you're buying to sell here.

Two good resources for you are:

* American Importers Association Membership Directory, 420 Lexington Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017; and

* American Register of Importers and Exporters, 38 Park Row, New York, N.Y. 10038.

You can also look at books in your library such as "How To Make A Fortune In Import/Export", by Howard R. Goldsmith, obviously an optimistic look at this type of business.

If you know the type of product you want to import and the market most likely to purchase your goods, you have great potential for a successful home-based business.

8. INTERIOR DECORATOR

While this business will require you to be out and about, meeting with customers, it's the type of work many people would love to do. If you have a fascination for decorating a home, this could be your line of work.

Many people don't know where to start when they are remodeling or buying a house for the first time. If you have the knowledge of colors and patterns and what looks good together, plus the expertise of knowing where to get materials and furnishings, this can be a winning home-based business for you.

One excellent resource to consult is the "Interior Design Directory", available through Whitney Communication Corporation, 1050 E. 58th Street, New York, N.Y. 10155.

9. PHOTOGRAPHER

The sky's the limit here! Armed with your trusty camera and some good advertising, you can do weddings, models, family portraits, passports, student photos, local newspaper coverage; almost anything that requires a picture!

You can easily start this work, part-time, and work into full-time work based on your success and inclination. Not much equipment is necessary to get going as a camera off the store shelf can often do the trick today. Picking up a tripod and having a room sufficient for developing your pictures, and you're in business -- at home!

There are a number of excellent books available in your local library to get you started on the path of professional photography.

10. SEWING & ALTERATIONS

Many people love to sew. If you're one of them, consider offering this service out of your home. When someone buys a new outfit, it rarely fits perfectly, me aning some kind of alteration must be done.

People look long and hard to find reliable individuals to do their alterations. If you can sew, you're well on your way to opening the doors of this type of business.

One resource you can review is "Sewing for Profit", by Judith and Allan Smith. Or your library will have a handful of capable publications on starting up this type of business.

These are our suggestions as to the top 10 ways to earn money at home, enough to be a full-time self-employed businessperson!

But there are many other opportunities. The listings that follow may give you some other ideas you need to get started in business for yourself.

Arizona Agriculture and the Honey Bee

Arizona Agriculture and the Honey Bee

Arizona Agriculture and the Honey Bee

Over one point two million acres throughout Arizona is farmland owned by ten thousand individual farmers who take advantage of one of the most efficient irrigation networks found worldwide. The revenues from Arizona harvests accumulate to almost seven billion dollars annually, with the highest produced vegetables being lettuce, spinach, cauliflower, and broccoli. Some of the popular fruits are watermelon, apples, lemons, cantaloupe, and honeydew melons; and each of these rely on more than just sound farming principles and fancy irrigation. When it comes to the fertilization of these locally grown plants the Honey Bee plays a vital role in helping farmers reach their crop's maximum potential.

When an apple orchard blossoms for example, several hundred flowers begin to bloom while awaiting pollination. It is possible for either the wind or the rain to carry pollen to some of those flowers so they can advance towards becoming an apple, and when left to chance many o f those blooms will wither and fall from the tree untouched. This is where the Honey Bee comes into play, because it actively seeks the nectar available from each of those flowers and will visit the same tree many times each day. In making its daily rounds the bee will gather nectar while inadvertently covering itself with pollen. It will then return to the hive and touch or rub against other harvester bees, and when each of them return to the apple tree for more nectar the blooms become pollinated. The presence of Honey Bees not only ensures a greater harvest because more blooms will become fertilized on the apple tree, but through cross pollination other types of nearby fruits and vegetables will have higher chances of being fertilized as well.

Since the vast majority of Arizona's crops are fertilized by using the same general process, Honey Bees play a crucial role throughout the state. Honeydew melons, cauliflower, cantaloupe, watermelon, broccoli, and apple harves ts all take advantage of this insect's special abilities, and beekeepers are kept busy throughout most of the year working side by side with farmers making sure their pollination needs are met. This is usually done by placing the manufactured beehives on wooden pallets and leaving them at the edge of the crop throughout the entire blooming season, and the number of bees necessary for the task vary for each type of harvest. Recent studies have revealed an average of a 20% increase in production because of the Honey Bee's presence, with some benefiting as much as a 65%. Without this insect's availability each of these crops would lose most if not their entire profit margin and many of the local foods available inside our local supermarkets would no longer be available.

Illegal Aliens, Agriculture and Robotics

Illegal Aliens, Agriculture and Robotics

Illegal Aliens, Agriculture and Robotics

Apparently, we need Robots to pick apples, as The New York Times pointed out that "there are no shortage of apples, but a possible shortage of immigrant pickers." The issues seems rather crucial as Lisa a reporter for the times stated:

The Hudson Valley in New York has had near-perfect weather for apples this season, but there are fears that there aren't enough hands to pick the crop.

It appears that with the crack down on illegal aliens many people are needing to mow their own lawns, so what we need now is a reliable robotic lawnmower that uses hover technology to float across the lawn, using hydro-craft technologies while it cuts it. How far away are such realities? Well there are currently several models capable of doing this now.

The question becomes that of cost and crisis. If the labor shortage gets too bad and we are in crisis mode to find such labor then the cost to produce the robot units will seem irrelevant considering the dilemma. We are almost t here now. Therefore, a company that can inexpensively or even within reason produce a quality robotic lawn mower is in the green, literally.

Not long ago a couple of robotic graduate students produced a robotic lawn-mower which could be pre-programmed to start on a timer, cut the grass and then re-dock itself for charging, amazing that the concept had not caught on. Yet in a way we know consumers to be somewhat stand-off-ish when it comes to technology; that is unless enough PR and advertising is rendered to tout its practicality and applications.

Nevertheless, the time for robotic lawn mowers is now nearly upon us and expect one in every garage as the reliability comes to fruition and the next business cycle up-tick cometh. What say you? Think on this.

Starting a Green Grocer Business for Uganda? Go On, Save a Life

Starting a Green Grocer Business for Uganda? Go On, Save a Life

Starting a Green Grocer Business for Uganda? Go On, Save a Life

First the basics:

A green grocer is primarily a retailer who sells fruits and vegetables. For the purposes of Uganda, I will take the liberty to extend this definition to someone who grows fruits and vegetables for subsequent sale.

Still interested?

I don't think you can successfully start this business if you are not passionate about healthy living because It seems no one likes eating healthy! I remember as a child my mum slapped us when we didn't eat greens. Bless her, she had "to be cruel to be kind", she knew what every good mother knows; greens save your life. For example eating a minimum of 400 grams of fruit and vegetables a day lowers the risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, some types of cancer, type 2 diabetes and obesity.

So then, how do you translate the passion to save a life into a viable business?

FIRST THE CONS

1. Low demand (local)

Uganda is a mainly subsistence econom y and a lot of families grow their own fruits and vegetables and therefore 80% of Ugandans will probably not be your clients. This leaves a small urban base which is slowly shifting from buying from street side/market stalls to the various emerging supermarkets. On this basis, should you choose to venture into this sector, I suggest that your focus is to supply supermarkets or for export.

2. Excellent organisation skills

As fruits and vegetables have a short shelf life, typically a few days for say bananas and mangoes to 1-2 months for lemons and oranges, this sector requires excellent planning/organisation skills. You need:

Cash - to buy and transport items at short notice. You need advance cash to buy fertiliser, pay for labour etc as it could be at least 5 months (during growth) before you realise any income at harvest. Uganda is typically an informal economy and so it is difficult for you to access credit facilities hence the need to have cash.Record keeping. In addition to financial records, you need production and quality assurance records.

THE PROS

1. Out grower partnership

Having considered the various options, I believe the best is as an out-grower to an established export farm. This gives two advantages; assured market and technical support.

To supply say Tesco supermarket in the UK or to the European Union (EU) you need quality control systems in place for your products to be traced from the farm to the market as well as for sample quality checks to meet EU health and safety requirements. This makes export very expensive for a small farmer and thus need for the affiliation.

In Uganda, export companies like Farm Fresh Produce and Jaksons Uganda Limited would be a good start particularly as several reports and interviews with them indicates that their main challenge is finding sufficient quality outgrowers to help them meet the demand from the EU markets.

Now there is a golden opportunity - become an "out grower" of farm fresh and voilà, success!

2. Technical support

In addition to support from programmes like National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADs) or for the out grower by the "lead" farm, specific technical support for the sector is available from the EU PIP programme: http://www.coleacp.org/pip. The PIP programme provides support in the form of cost sharing to cover cost of technical assistance and training while the investor provides the infrastructure and the working capital.

3. Excellent Profit and Return on capital

On the basis of a financial model we have developed (at inachee.com); I estimate the following:

Start-up Capital (A): Shs.13,538,374 Profit per year (B): Shs. 52,488,422 Return on Investment/Capital (years to get capital back) (A/B): 0.26 years

In other words, you can expect to get back your start-up capital in about 3 months.

The model is based on amongst others:

Being an out grower to a farm that exports say chillies;Inter-cropping. You inter crop the main export crop with other fruits and vegetables and thus earn other income; andIrrigation. Weather trends are increasingly unpredictable even in Uganda. Irrigation equipment used to start at $ 4,500 but products like the "money maker" wonder pump costs $ 150.This makes it affordable for the smaller farmer in Uganda.

FINAL WORD

Not eating chillies/hot pepper is not necessarily what my mother spanked us for but growing other vegetables and fruits on your farm will save a life, it may well be your own or of your children so go on, plant fruits and vegetables; save a life.

Issues of Inter-Connectedness of the Agricultural Business with Regards to GM Crops

Issues of Inter-Connectedness of the Agricultural Business with Regards to GM Crops

Issues of Inter-Connectedness of the Agricultural Business with Regards to GM Crops

Some environmentalists decry the genetic manipulation and modification of crops and at least one organic grower has gone on record as stating that the problems in the actual industry are due to basic, interconnected issues in the ag business.

Of course it would be hard not to agree that there are so many issues around our nation for what we grow and although GM Crops can solve some problems there are still other issues to consider. Considering these things in advance and genetically modifying our food to take care of these issues makes sense.

Think for a moment if you will about other nations where things are grown and shipped here and the issues that need to be dealt with such as; sewage water irrigation, e.Coli, insects, certain pesticides and chemicals, trade agreements, time to ship, cost to produce + ship. All these issues might be solved through genetic manipulation of the seeds in advance to prevent serious problems down the road.

Please also ponder that our own Corporate Farmers and the few family farms left trying to compete for price and natural market forces. Then there is the labor issues, guest worker program streamlining, Everglades issues, salt water intrusion, flooding of pig and chicken waste, over used soil, hours of operation for truckers, cost of fuel to ship, Wal-Mart syndrome low-ball buyer strategies, over regulation of OSHA, EPA, FDA, and the jumping of the gun with the CDC, FBI, as well as the thought of International Terrorists screwing with our food supply and the fear of Mad Cow.

Genetically Modified foods cannot solve all the problems but it can be a big help. Still the price point is also an issue for human health. The less expensive good food is the better for families meaning healthier living. We might decide to bypass the advantages of GM Crops; unfortunately this causes the costs to increase and I fear that when you can buy a Lb. of Duplex Chocolate Cookies, cheaper than a lb. of Bell Peppers, head of lettuce or Cantaloupe, then yes there are problems.

But the roots of the problems must be fixed too if we are to fix the over all problems that are discussed here in this short article. It is important to have a national debate on this subject free from conspiracy theory and bogus complaint. We need to admit that the human population is expanding and we need solutions to feed everyone and while we are at it, let us also solve as many other pressing issues as possible. Perhaps this article will propel thought in 2007.

Business and Industry in Norwich

Business and Industry in Norwich

Business and Industry in Norwich

Once famous for the manufacture of cloth, worsted in particular, the trade has almost ceased to exist in Norwich. Just about the only reminder of the trade in cloth are the tall three story buildings, with dormer windows, that were used to house the looms used in its production. Norwich is now mainly dependent on the service economy for its employment opportunities; the city has attracted over 50 national or regional headquarters of major UK firms and has four of the UKs fastest growing businesses based there. With a total of some 3,000 employers in the area around Norwich, over 75% of them employ five people or fewer. Hence, small businesses are of vital importance to local employment opportunities. Whilst agriculture, another historically important activity in the area, is still important in terms of contributing to the local economy, it now employs only about 8% of the local residents.

Norwich Union is undoubtedly the most famous company in Norwich and it is a lso the largest employer, employing 8000 local residents. The company is involved in the insurance, assurance, finance and health sectors of the economy and has assets in excess of £300 billion. It is estimated that overall one in four people in Norwich work in a finance or business related environment. Being the city where Barclays bank first started doing business it is perhaps fitting that Virgin Money has its registered office in Discovery House on Whiting Road in Norwich. Virgin Money, with assets in excess of £2.5 billion, is part of the hugely successful Virgin group and was launched in 1995 by the owner, Richard Branson. Virgin Money employs over 400 people in Norwich and the Virgin group employs 35,000 people world-wide. Moneyfacts is a paper and electronic publisher of unbiased financial data, based in Norwich which employs about 115 people. Another company working in the finance sector is Central Trust, which is sited at Austen House in Stannard Place, and e mploys approximately 350 employees. The company is a provider of financial services, loans, and has assets of around £50 million.

Currently owned by the Malaysian car manufacturing company Proton, Group Lotus has for more than 50 years been renowned for producing sports cars of quality and distinction. Its current range of models are the; Elise, Exige, Europa and the 2-Eleven which re-introduces the motoring philosophy of the old Lotus-7. Whilst the glory days of F1 motor-racing are gone for Lotus, it is still an important employer in Norwich. Its staff of about 1000 produce over 3000 cars a year. The high reputation in which Lotus Engineering, another arm of Group Lotus, is held can be demonstrated in the fact that 10% of all car engines sold in Europe were designed by Lotus. Group Lotus is located at Potash Lane in Hethel. Lotus are not the only company working in the motor trade near Norwich, Racing Technology (Norfolk) Ltd employs 40 people in a purpose built fa ctory at Hingham and designs and manufactures composite bodies, mainly for racing cars, for customers such as Audi, Volkswagen and Bugatti. The company employs around 100 staff including managers, designers and marketing staff. Another company, Triking Cycle Cars Ltd, specialises in making three wheeled 'kit' cyclecars.

The Norwich Research Park is typical of the forward looking attitude that the city is taking to its future employment prospects. The park is a site of concentrated research sponsored by several companies into Health, Food and Environmental sciences and provides employment for around 9000 people. Other hi-tech companies located in Norwich include Syfer Technology Ltd, located at Arminghall in 'state of the art' premises, who are acknowledged as a world leader in the production of multi-layer components to the electronics industry. This essentially means they produce capacitors and filters for electronic circuit boards. Located nearby in Diss is Hamlin El ectronics, they manufacture position and movement sensors that are important to features of car safety. Adobe, the company behind many software applications, has one of its two European development centres in Norwich.

Whilst the number of people working in agriculture has fallen, the farming industry still provides employment opportunities through companies involved in processing locally grown produce. Most famous of the food producing companies must surely be Bernard Matthews. Involved in both the farm rearing of the birds and the processing of them Bernard Matthews is a house-hold name in the UK when it comes to any fowl related produce. With its head office and processing plant at Great Witchingham Hall outside Norwich, it employs close on 1000 people locally and some 6000 world-wide. Started in 1950 by Bernard Matthews the company is now the biggest producer of turkeys in Europe and has an annual turn-over of more than £400 million. The company takes great pride in using farms in the east of England to rear the turkeys that it processes at its 12 hectare centre of operations.

One recent success in this area has been the development of Kettle Foods. With its registered office on Bowthorpe kettle Foods are best known for their range of potato snacks that they produce which contain "absolutely nothing artificial". Unilever has a factory in Carrow, Norwich, producing Colman's Mustard, a product that has been made in the city for over 180 years. Coleman's has been owned by Unilever since 1995 and is the oldest established arm of the company.

Business and Market Overview on Malaysia

Business and Market Overview on Malaysia

Business and Market Overview on Malaysia

ECONOMY. Malaysia is a middle-income economy and has the third highest GDP per capita (US$ 4,625) among the Southeast Asian countries after Singapore and Brunei. The country was primarily a producer of raw materials but transformed its economy from the 1970s to the 1990s into a multi-sector economy. Malaysia's economic growth is export driven mainly from exports of electrical and electronic products.

Malaysia's economy is relatively stable with healthy foreign exchange reserves and a GDP of US$ 118.3 billion in 2004. From 2000 to 2004, Malaysia's real GDP grew by an annual average of 5.7% while inflation remained below 2.0% and unemployment below 4.0%. The Asian economic crisis of 1997 adversely affected Malaysia's economy during the period. It is unlikely that the country will experience an economic crisis similar to 1997 with current healthy foreign exchange reserves, low inflation and small foreign debt.

The manufacturing sector accounted for 48.5% of Malaysia's GDP in 2004, services accounted for 42.4% and the agriculture sector accounted for 9.1%. Major industries include electronic & electrical products, textiles, clothing & footwear, chemicals, petroleum, wood and metal products. Major agriculture industries include palm oil, rubber, cocoa, rice, poultry and timber.

DEMOGRAPHY. Malaysia comprises of Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia (located on the northern half of the island of Borneo) with a population of 26 million. Malaysia is a multi-ethnic society comprising of the predominant indigenous Malays (50%) followed by the Chinese (24%) and Indians (7%). Other indigenous groups (11%) include the Ibans, Kadazans, Melanaus and Kelabits. Major religion practiced is Islam followed by Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism and Christianity. Major languages used are Malay (national language), English (commonly used in business), Chinese (mainly Mandarin, Hokkien and Cantonese) and Tamil.

Malaysia's population is becoming increasingly urban. The country's urban population increased from 54.7% to 62.8% of Malaysia's total population from 1995 to 2004. Main reason is increasing employment opportunities in the major urban areas. Major urban areas include the nation's capital Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding areas (known as the Klang Valley), Penang, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Kuantan, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

Households in the urban areas have an average income that is twice than those in the rural areas. An estimated 5% of Malaysian households live below the poverty level while 50% are low-income households. The proportion of medium income households is 33% while high-income households are 10%.

INFRASTRUCTURE. Malaysia has a well-served international and domestic telecommunication system. Cities and towns are well connected by roads including highways and public transport. Internet broadband services are available in the cities and major towns. Warning: Is Your Network Marketing Business a Fox Guarding the Hen House?

Warning: Is Your Network Marketing Business a Fox Guarding the Hen House?

Warning: Is Your Network Marketing Business a Fox Guarding the Hen House?

According to Federal Register, Volume 76, No. 67, dated Thursday, April 7, 2011, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is implementing a two year pilot program that allows biotech companies to conduct environmental assessments on genetically modified (GM) crops.

What this means is that biotech companies can basically self assess their activities. Unfortunately however, history has taught us that that many companies can't be trusted to police themselves, because they have a vested interest in making a profit. This is a conflict of interest. The same conflict of interest can exist in network marketing companies too, especially when it comes to marketing.

Getting the Word Out

Building a network marketing business requires you to let people know what you have to offer. One of the first things you're taught is the talk to your warm market, the people you already know such as family, friends, and acquaintances.

But once you've talke d to everyone you know, it's time to do cold marketing, talking to people you don't know, people you bump into as you go through your everyday activities. This approach takes the right mindset and strong fortitude. You're looking for people who are already looking for an opportunity, which is like looking for a needle in a haystack. And there's a lot more hay than there are needles.

Let People Find You

A better approach is to let the people who are already looking find you. The best way to do this is through marketing. And the best place to do that marketing is on the internet.

Unfortunately many network marketing companies place restrictions on your marketing efforts. Some don't even let you advertise, let alone market. The reason is that they don't want their companies to be misrepresented. This is a legitimate concern, but hinders the ability of distributors to build successful businesses. There are ways around this though.

Fortuna tely some companies recognize that the internet is where business has to be, so they have developed marketing systems their distributors can use. Sounds great, but this is where a potential conflict of interest exists.

Watch Out for the Fox

Remember, the company has developed the product and the compensation plan, much like the biotech companies who develop the GM crops. Now they are developing the marketing system which is like the biotech companies doing their own agriculture assessment. The company could potentially develop a marketing system that appears to benefit the distributor, but really benefits the company at the expense of the distributor.

If you're researching network marketing companies, be sure you understand their marketing rules. And if they offer a marketing system, make sure you understand how the marketing system works and how it supports you. You don't want to end being the hen with the fox guarding the hen house.

If you're looking for a business with a marketing system that puts you in the driver's seat, then go to http://InternetBizKnowHow.com?t=ezfox.
